Yakushima & Kuchinoerabu islands
 

Yakushima and Kuchinoerabu islands are one of the islands of Osumi islands,  which are located south of Kyushu island. All Osumi islands belong to Kagoshima prefecture.
 

Yakushima is a World Heritage Site since 1993, famous for vast forest of Yakusugi cedar trees. Kuchinoerabu is a small island west of Yakushima, population only around 100 inhabitants.
 

One municipality

Whole area of Yaksuhima and Kuchinoerabu belong to Yakushima town.

How to get there?

Daily flights from Kagoshima, Fukuoka  and from Osaka-Itami to Yakushima. Hydrofoil/Jetfoil and ferry are connecting Miyanoura port on the island and Kagoshima port. Kuchinoerabu can be reached by ferry from Yakushima and Tanegashima. 

What to do?

Trekking is so popular on the island of Yakushima but try forest bathing too.

 

Kuchinoerabu has several public hot springs on the island worth to try.
