Ichinoseki station is a main station of city of Ichinoseki, which is located in southern Iwate prefecture. It is a gateway to UNESCO World heritage, Hiraizumi.
Ichinoseki station is for Tohoku main line, Ofunato line and Tohoku Shinkansen. Unfortunately the fastest Shinkansen Hayabusa type trains do not call at Ichinoseki but Yamabiko trains which are running between Tokyo and Morioka stations call at Ichinoseki.
Tohoku main line trains from south terminates at Ichinoseki. Therefore, if you want to travel further to north, Morioka or Hiraizumi stations, you have to change here for trains bound for Morioka. Hiraizumi station is just two stops by local train.
