Probably no tourists visit Goryokaku tower in Hakodate, Hokkaido if it is not located next to the famous Goryokaku castle. People climb the tower to see the castle's shape from above. Then, may be many visitors even do not take a picture of the tower either.
The original tower was built in 1964 which was 60 meters tall and the observatory deck was located at the height of 45 meters. Then, current tower was built in 2006, next to the original tower. The original tower was demolished right after the new tower was built.
The current tower is 107 meters tall and the observatory deck is located at 90 meters above ground. There are souvenir shops, cafe, restaurants, exhibitions and etc. The open daily from 09:00 to 18:00. Admission of adult is JPY 900. The tower is not located at walking distance from neither Hakodate or Goryokaku stations.
