Fukuoka Art Museum is located at Ohori park in Fukuoka, the largest city in Kyushu island. It was opened in November 1979 and it is a municipal art museum. It is one of the two public art museums in Fukuoka, together with Fukuoka Prefectural Museum of Art.
The collection is approximately 16000 works, mainly the works of artists from Kyushu but there are also substantial works or world famous artists outside Japan. Then, not only contemporary works but also tea utensils and Important Cultural Properties.
The art museum has museum shop, cafe and restaurant. The cafe and the restaurant are run by Hotel New Ohtani Hakata. It is closed on Mondays and year end and year beginning; 28 December - 04 January. The nearest station is Ohori-koen(Ohori Park) on Fukuoka Municipal Subway Kuko line. Or take local bus from Hakata station to Akasaka-sanchome or Fukuoka-shi Bijutsukan Higashiguchi.
