Tanegashima-yaki(Tanegashima ware) is a Japanese pottery, sometimes called as Yokino-yaki; Yokino ware. It is currently made on Tanegashima island in Kagoshima prefecture by 5 artists. It is told that the technique came from China via Kuroshio Current.
Traditional pottery mostly disappeared in late 19th century, therefore it is called legendary pottery in Japan. Tanegashima-yaki are made of clay which contains a lot of iron and natural graze. Currently there is a movement to revive Tanegashima-yaki in Tanegashima island.
