Shakujii park is located in Nerima ward, Tokyo and it is public park which belongs to Tokyo metropolis. It opened in 1959 and the area is 201,374.83m2.
There are two large ponds located at the park and these two ponds were created before the establishment of the park. You can ride boats at one of the pond which boating scenes appear on several manga.
The park is also famous for cherry blossom and there are many visitors during cherry blossom season. It is open daily without restricted hours. There are shops which sell refreshments at the park too. Shakujii castle ruled by Toshima clan existed here until late 15th century.
Shakujii park can be reached on foot, 7 minutes from Seibu Ikebukuro line's Shakujii-koen station. Shakujii-koen means Shakujii park. From downtown Tokyo, get to Ikebukuro station which you can transfer to Seibu Ikebukuro line or to Nerima station by Oedo subway line and then change to Seibu Ikebukuro line. All trains except limited express call at Shakujii-koen station. It is 10 minutes by express train from Ikebukuro or 7 minutes by local train from Nerima.
